You Were Born to Do Big Things: How Faith Turns Ordinary Lives Into Extraordinary Impact
Introduction: God Didn’t Make You for Average
Every heartbeat inside you carries divine purpose. Every breath you take was designed with intention.
God didn’t create you for average — He created you for impact.
This isn’t just a motivational statement — it’s biblical truth. Throughout Scripture, God never called anyone to live a small life. He called fishermen to become apostles, shepherds to become kings, and the broken to become whole.
If you’ve ever felt like you were made for more, you’re right. You were.

This powerful talk by Douglas Vandergraph will remind you that you are chosen for more than comfort, called for more than survival, and equipped to do big things through faith.
1️⃣ The Faith That Moves Mountains
The Bible says in Matthew 17:20, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Notice that Jesus didn’t say faith would make life easy — He said it would make the impossible possible.
That’s the kind of faith that does big things.
Big faith doesn’t mean loud faith. It means consistent trust when everything else says “quit.” It means believing God’s promise when logic tells you to stop.
Faith doesn’t shrink when things get hard — it expands when you decide to trust anyway.
You may feel underqualified, underprepared, or overwhelmed. But the good news is, God doesn’t call the qualified — He qualifies the called.
When you trust Him, He takes your ordinary and turns it into extraordinary.
2️⃣ You Are Chosen for More Than Comfort
Comfort never produces growth. The Israelites wanted comfort in Egypt; God wanted to bring them into freedom.
Comfort feels good for a moment, but calling fulfills you for a lifetime.
Many people spend their lives waiting for perfect conditions before stepping into their purpose — but the truth is, perfection never comes.
God moves when you move.
When Moses stood at the Red Sea, the waters didn’t part until he raised his staff.
When Peter wanted to walk on water, the miracle didn’t happen until he stepped out of the boat.
Your calling won’t meet you in comfort. It meets you in courage.
According to Psychology Today, research shows that “stepping into discomfort is one of the most reliable paths to long-term growth and confidence” (Psychology Today, 2024). Science continues to confirm what Scripture already taught — that growth and impact come through trust, not fear.
When you trust God with your steps, He multiplies your reach.
3️⃣ The Power of Divine Obedience
Faith without obedience is just wishful thinking. Obedience is faith in action.
Abraham left everything he knew because God told him to “go.” He didn’t know where — he just knew Who. That one act of obedience became the foundation of an entire nation.
God calls us to move even when we don’t have the full map.
He asks for trust — not details.
In the book of James, we read, “Faith without works is dead.” (James 2:26)
That means your faith is most alive when it’s walking, building, serving, or believing against all odds.
When God says move — move.
When He says speak — speak.
When He says forgive — forgive.
You never know what miracle is waiting on the other side of your obedience.
4️⃣ Stop Waiting for Someday
“Someday” is where dreams go to die.
We say:
-
Someday I’ll start that ministry.
-
Someday I’ll forgive that person.
-
Someday I’ll take that leap of faith.
But someday is not a day on the calendar. It’s a delay wrapped in fear.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 reminds us, “Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.”
In other words, those who wait for perfect timing never begin.
Faith doesn’t wait for guarantees — it moves in trust.
The time is now.
Step forward, even if your knees shake.
Your purpose is bigger than your fear, your calling is stronger than your doubt, and your faith is more powerful than anything standing in your way.
5️⃣ God Uses the Ordinary to Do the Extraordinary
Every major figure in the Bible started small:
-
David was a shepherd boy before he became a king.
-
Gideon was hiding in fear before he became a mighty warrior.
-
Mary was a humble young woman chosen to carry the Savior of the world.
Their greatness didn’t come from their background — it came from their belief.
God loves to take what looks ordinary and make it extraordinary. That’s His specialty.
As Harvard Business Review points out, “Purpose-driven individuals produce greater long-term impact and satisfaction than those motivated solely by achievement.” (HBR, 2023).
The world celebrates status. God celebrates surrender.
He’s not asking for your résumé — He’s asking for your yes.
6️⃣ Faith Multiplies Your Reach
When you trust God with your steps, He multiplies your reach in ways you can’t imagine.
Consider the boy who offered his lunch of five loaves and two fish.
To everyone else, it was insignificant.
But in the hands of Jesus, it became enough to feed thousands.
That’s what God does.
He takes what you think is small and makes it eternal.
Every act of faith ripples through eternity. Every time you step out for God, someone else sees hope again.
Even The Atlantic notes that “acts of generosity and faith-driven service produce measurable benefits not only in spiritual well-being but also in mental health and resilience” (The Atlantic, 2023).
When you trust God’s multiplication over your limitation, your life becomes a testimony of His abundance.
7️⃣ Your Calling Is Waiting for Your Courage
Courage isn’t the absence of fear — it’s the decision that something else matters more.
Joshua 1:9 says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
If God is with you, then fear is not your master.
Every world-changer in Scripture faced fear:
-
Noah faced ridicule.
-
Esther risked death.
-
Daniel faced lions.
-
Paul faced prison.
But their obedience led to victory.
Your calling may require you to walk into rooms where you feel small, to face challenges that look impossible, or to step into seasons where the outcome isn’t clear.
But that’s where God’s glory shines brightest — in the steps you take anyway.
8️⃣ God’s Vision Is Bigger Than Your Plans
You may have a plan, but God has a vision.
Plans are built around what we can see. Vision is built around what God can create.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Your dream might seem too big for you — but it’s the perfect size for God.
He never asked you to have it all figured out. He only asked you to walk with Him one step at a time.
Big things don’t start big. They start with faith.
According to Forbes, purpose-aligned living “produces exponential results because clarity of mission amplifies both passion and productivity.” (Forbes, 2022).
That’s not just business — that’s biblical.
When you align your mission with God’s, your potential becomes limitless.
9️⃣ Faith That Impacts Generations
When you step in faith, it doesn’t just change your life — it changes generations.
Abraham’s obedience affected Israel.
Ruth’s loyalty affected David.
Mary’s “yes” affected eternity.
Your obedience may be the spark that ignites a revival in your family, your city, or your nation.
Never underestimate what God can do through one willing heart.
🔟 The Time Is Now
Stop waiting for the perfect moment. Stop analyzing every outcome.
Faith is not found in the safety of waiting — it’s found in the courage of moving.
God is already ahead of you.
He’s already prepared the opportunity, opened the door, and arranged divine connections.
All He’s waiting for is you.
If you believe that God created you for more, then today is your moment.
Stand up.
Speak out.
Step forward.
You are not an accident — you are an assignment.
🔥 The Prayer for Big Things
Father, thank You for creating me with divine purpose. Give me courage to walk by faith, even when I can’t see the full picture. Help me break free from fear and step boldly into what You’ve called me to do. I know You didn’t create me for average — You created me for impact. Use my life for Your glory, multiply my reach, and let every step I take bring someone closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
🌍 Final Thoughts: Step Into the Life You Were Created For
You are equipped for greatness, built for purpose, and designed by God to do big things.
Every great move of God began with one person who said “yes.”
You are that person now.
Stop letting fear negotiate with your destiny.
Stop shrinking when you were made to shine.
This is your moment — the time to step into everything God has for you.
Your future is waiting for your faith to move.
